Finmeccanica Podcast 17-Relief for the Pulp & Paper Industry

Using hydrogen fuel cell technology, waste from the pulp and paper industry can be used to generate electrical power, reduce or eliminate pollution, and provide heat to dry paper and pulp as it is produced. Ansaldo Fuel Cells, a Finmeccanica company, has a new partnership with the Italian Pulp and Paper association and the Italian government to build three Hydrogen Fuel Cell plants. Learn more on this podcast.

This new, clean technology saves on the use of imported energy and, in areas where there is surrounding biomass, can also provide additional electrical power for local or regional use.

The cost of removing and treating waste from pulp and paper plants and mills is eliminated and there are significant energy cost savings.

Finmeccanica Podcast 15- Hydrogen Fuel Cells

Hydrogen Fuel Cells are one of the exciting "breakthrough" technologies for producing power from alternative fuels. Ansaldo Fuel Cells, a Finmeccanica company, is producing a highly innovative fuel cell design with both military, civil and civilian applications. Using an advanced, patented Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell stack, the company has three prototype plants running in Europe. Two new naval projects, one to put the first fuel cell on a passenger and cargo ferry operating between Greece and Turkey, and another to build a demonstration of a NATO military ship with a hydrogen fuel cell, show that the use of the Ansaldo fuel cells for military and civil applications is near term. Ansaldo Fuel Cells has also been sponsored by the Government of Italy to demonstrate the Hydrogen Fuel Cell to use waste produced by the paper industry to produce both electrical energy and heat.

Finmeccanica Podcast 12 --Filippo Mileto on Blu Sky

Blu Sky and Telespazio, a Finmeccanica company, offer a major breakthrough in video security systems by making all cameras intelligent agents.

Blu Sky technology was developed in Italy and Israel and Blu Sky maintains laboratories in both countries.

This is a powerful and innovative technology for homeland security and for military security.

Blu Sky video surveillance technology converts low- and high-end CCTV cameras to “smart” cameras by incorporating human vision capabilities into the cameras using "video agent" technology.

The core technology is automatic segmentation, extraction and analysis of moving objects in video sequences.

Among the many uses and applications for automatic objects segmentation, extraction and analysis are: video surveillance and remote security systems, video compression and streaming over phone networks (such as cellular networks), interactive TV (hyperlinked video) and satellite control system.

Blu Sky and Telespazio supply integrated software and hardware solutions using Blu Sky’s advanced algorithmic and software developments.

The surveillance products contains automatic motion detection, automatic adaptation to illumination changes, alarm on predefined events, automatic change detection, automatic alarm on objects that stays static for a predefined period, automatic alarm on objects that were removed from the scene, automatic object tracking, advanced efficient recording mechanism, robust indoor and outdoor performance in locations such as banks, stores, airports, parking lots, buildings, military bases, field military operations, securing road and highways against terrorists, IED's and parked cars with explosives. The operator can add by creating virtual fences any shape covering sensitive areas for monitoring purposes.
